Dental Implants
In the past, missing teeth would be replaced with bridges, or removable partial or full dentures.  Today, patients have a more sensible choice, dental implants, which replace one or more teeth, and do not attach to the patient's natural teeth.  Dental implants give the appearance, comfort, and security of natural teeth.

Dental Implant Placement

Step One:
The implant procedure, in most cases, is performed in the doctor's office with local anesthesia.  The implant is placed into the jawbone where the tooth is missing.

Step Two:
Once the implant is placed in the jawbone, it is then covered with gum tissue and allowed to heal for three to six months.

Step Three:
After the healing process, the implant is uncovered and a post is tapped into the implant.  The post will provide the foundation for your new tooth or teeth.

Step Four:
A porcelain crown or a removable denture will be placed on the abutment post which becomes your final restoration.

What to expect after the implant procedure?
In most cases, the initial implant replacement takes less than an hour with minimal pain or discomfort.  After the placement, patients are encouraged to drink liquids or to eat soft foods, and, if necessary, to take mild pain killers.  Although patients amy experience discomfort for several days, they can usually return to work the day after the procedure.  In all situations, patients should discuss the probable outcomes with their dentist.
